How do I prepare myself and my baby for a newborn shoot in the studio?
Your newborn shoot is scheduled – and then the practical questions come up. What do I bring? How do I make sure my baby feels comfortable in a new environment? Below you can read exactly how to prepare, so that the day itself goes as smoothly as possible.
Our studio is designed to make things easy for you
All our newborn shoots take place in our studio in Vilvoorde. This is a conscious choice: we work with a constant, warm temperature, all materials and outfits within reach, and a calm, familiar setting that we set up perfectly every single day. So you don’t need to bring anything yourself in terms of decor or styling – we take care of that.
What can you set aside beforehand?
Any family heirlooms you would like in the photo (a knitted blanket from grandma, the first jacket)
A favorite stuffed animal or blanket, if that would be a nice, personal detail
Comfortable clothing for yourself, if you would also like to be in the photo – think of something simple that makes you feel good
How to prepare your baby
Make sure your baby is well-fed just before the shoot. A full tummy makes most babies calmer and sleepier – exactly what we need for the most beautiful, relaxed photos.
Do not schedule any vaccinations just before the day of the shoot. This often makes babies more restless or a bit under the weather, which doesn’t work in anyone’s favor.
Keep the rest of the day free. No other appointments before or after the shoot – this way no one has to watch the clock and we can truly follow your baby’s pace.
And how do I prepare myself?
Leave well on time, so you can arrive at the studio without stress and get used to the space together before we start.
Don’t expect a strict hour-by-hour schedule – we go with the flow. A feeding break, a moment for comfort, some extra time: it’s all part of it.
Wear something comfortable yourself, especially if you want to be in the photos too.
The most important thing
The calmer and more relaxed you are, the calmer your baby usually is too – and the more beautiful the photos will be. There are no “musts”, just a nice moment together that we capture, at your pace.
