What if my baby won’t lie still or cries during the shoot?
It might be the question we get most often from (expectant) parents: “What if our baby cries the whole time, or just won’t lie still?”
And quite rightly so,
you want to experience a moment like this in a calm and pleasant way, together with your little one.
The good news: this is exactly what we are trained for. A newborn or baby shoot rarely goes like it does on Pinterest, and it doesn’t have to. Below, we explain how we handle it and what you can do to make it as easy as possible for you and your little one.
A crying baby is no problem; it’s the most natural thing in the world
Babies cry. They are hungry, tired, or just need a moment to get used to a new environment. We deliberately schedule time for that—there is no rigid one-hour schedule during the shoot. A feeding break, a cuddle, a moment of comfort: it’s all part of it, and we simply build the shoot around your baby’s rhythm.
How do we handle it?
We follow your baby’s pace, not the other way around. Is a break needed? Then we take one, stress-free.
We have set aside time. A shoot deliberately lasts a bit longer than just “the photos themselves,” so there is room for rest, feeding, and comfort.
We stay calm, and that’s contagious. Babies sense tension perfectly—the calmer we stay, the faster a little one settles down again.
Not every moment has to be perfect. Sometimes a crying, frowning baby, or a spontaneous yawn, is the most touching image of the whole set.
What can you do to make it easy for yourself?
Make sure your baby is well-fed just before the shoot—a full tummy makes most babies calmer and sleepier.
Don’t expect a perfect flow, and that’s okay. The less pressure you put on yourself, the more relaxed the whole shoot feels.
Trust our process. We have experienced this countless times, and every shoot turns out well in its own way.
And what if things really aren’t going well?
Even then, there’s no need to panic. We simply adapt: a bit more time, a short break, or we shift the order of the photos. In the end, it almost always works out—and if a certain moment doesn’t work, that’s fine too. Not every shoot has to be picture-perfect; it’s mainly about a nice, genuine memory.
