What is the ideal age for newborn photos?
“Exactly how old should my baby be for the shoot?” It is one of the most frequently asked questions—and the honest answer depends on which shoot you have in mind.
At Pure Life, we offer two options, each with its own rhythm: the Ultimate Newborn shoot and the New Family Love shoot. Below, we explain the difference so you can decide what suits your family best.
Ultimate Newborn: as young as possible, but always flexible
For those classic, dreamy newborn poses—curled up, just like in the womb—we prefer to work within the first few days after birth, when babies still sleep the most and are naturally flexible. The younger they are, the easier it is to achieve those typical poses.
But for us, “as young as possible” never means forcing anything. If your baby arrives a bit later, or if they prefer not to be curled up that day, we simply adjust our approach—opting for more open, awake photos instead of the classic poses. Every age has its own charm, and we always follow your baby’s lead, not the other way around.
New Family Love: no age limit, no pressure
With the New Family Love shoot, things are completely different—and intentionally so. This shoot has no age limit. In fact, we personally find it nicer when you, as a new family, have had some time to settle in, rather than having to rush to the studio after just a few days for “the perfect photos.” A baby who is slightly older—a few weeks, sometimes even months—often provides the most relaxed, natural family moments because there is no time pressure and everyone feels more at home in their new rhythm.
This shoot always takes place in our studio.
How do you book at the right time?
The booking process works the same for both shoots:
Set a tentative date during your pregnancy.
This guarantees you a spot in the calendar—last-minute bookings are not always possible.
Contact us as soon as the baby is born.
Together, we will see if the scheduled date still works or if it’s better to move it—depending on how things are going and which shoot you chose.
We go with the flow
Whether it’s Ultimate Newborn or New Family Love: the most important thing for us is that you feel at ease, without any stress.
In practice, this means:
Don’t plan anything else that day
no other appointments before or after the shoot.
Avoid vaccinations right before the shoot
this often makes babies more restless or fussy, which isn’t ideal for anyone.
There is no rigid schedule.
We follow your baby’s rhythm: a feeding break, a moment for comforting, or just some extra time—it’s all part of the process.
